National Wildlife Refuge Week Project at Pahranagat -
October 17
Help us celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week in
Southern Nevada.
Friends is having a volunteer project at the
Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge on October 17th to mark this special
occasion. We will meet in the morning then carpool to the project site,
about 2 hours north of Las Vegas. We will remove cattails from Maynard
Spring to help the water flow.
And YOU are invited!
Waterfowl season begins in October so we might
see Sandhill cranes as they arrive on their migration south. We should
be able to see geese and hoards of ducks including canvasbacks, teal,
redheads, shovelers and pintail on refuge lakes and marshes. The fall
colors might be at their peak, so bring your camera.
These trips are fun and rewarding, and they can
be a great way to meet new Friends. All volunteers are welcome!
Every trip offers opportunities to contribute in
less physically-demanding ways, such as: taking photos, writing and
reporting, or just enjoying the beauty of wilderness.
Please call Kurt Kuznicki at (775) 745-3119 or
email Kurt for more information.

National Public Lands Day at Gold Butte
Recap of very successful stewardship event on
September 26
Volunteers from Friends of Nevada Wilderness came
out to support the Friends of Gold Butte and the BLM at National Public
Lands Day. Over 40 volunteers worked together to install about 80 feet
of cedar post-and-rail fence in the newly created parking area.
Volunteers turned a two-track road into a hiking trail lined with stone,
and planted 50 native plants to naturalize & beautify the area.
Volunteer Wally Wallace said, "I'm very
interested in the cultural resources of the area, and I want to help
preserve and protect them for future generations".

Hi everyone,
Yesterday's (October 6, 2009) eNews from

THIS IS WRONG.
The CORRECT DATE for this trip is October 31
- Halloween (and the real Nevada Day).
If you are planning to take part in that
trip, please make sure you mark
October 31 on your calendar.
