Walker Lake - What You Can Do!

In 1992 concerned citizens of Mineral County formed the Walker Lake Working Group. This group is an affilate of Nevada Wildlife Federation.

Recently, nearly 20 local and national conservation groups and business-related entities formed the Coalition to Save Walker Lake to support the work of the Walker Lake Working Group.

A vital component of the coalition's success is based on public support. The coalition is dedicated to working with all interested parties to develop and implement a plan to restore Walker Lake through economically and enviromentally sustainable solutions.

You can help save Walker Lake. What you can do is:

  • Call Gov. Kenny Guinn at (775)684-5670 and ask him to proclaim an Executive Order to release emergency water to Walker Lake from the Walker River Basin.
  • Call U.S. Sen. Harry Reid at (775)686-5750, (702)388-5020 or (202)224-3542.
Thank him for supporting Walker Lake and making the lake a priority.
  • Attend a Coalition to Save Walker Lake meeting. Call Lorna Weaver at (775)677-0927 for meeting times and locations.
  • Attend the Walker Lake Working Group meetings held every first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at the Mineral County Court House in Hawthorne, NV.
  • Send a donation to the Walker Lake Working Group to help fund this critical campaign.
