Walker Lake - What You Can Do!
In 1992 concerned citizens of Mineral County formed the Walker Lake Working Group. The Group is dedicated to working with all interested parties in the development and implmentation of a plan to restore Walker Lake, a lake of international status, through economically and environmentally sustainable solutions.
Although the flood of 1997 raised the lakes elevation by over three feet, and for the third consecutive year the level of the lake has risen, we must develop long-term equitable solutions to save Walker Lake. A vital component of the Group's success is based on public support.
You can help save Walker Lake. What you can do is:
- Call U.S. Senator Harry Ried at 702-686-5750 or 202-224-354.
Thank him for supporting Walker Lake and making the lake a prioity.
- Call Governor Bob Miller at 702-687-5670.
Tell him the State of Nevada needs to take the lead in saving Walker Lake.
- If you have a group and would like to have a speaker and slide show on Walker Lake, contact either Lou Thompson at the Walker Lake Working Group, 702-573-2581, or Graham Chisholm at Great Basin Bird Observatory, 702-348-2644.
- Attend the Walker Lake Working Group meetings held every first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at the Mineral County Court House.
